Single Sign On - Solutions |
| |
|
|
|
There are several approaches for Single Sign On, which are differing in holding, administration and creation of the credentials for the authentications.
Often Single Sign On solutions are using a central authentication server, which is checking the credential e.g. the One Time Password, and providing this service other application. OTP solutions are differing in using variable Tokens and in the OTP-algorithm.
E.g. a PKI offers itself as a Single Sign On aside the other application fields. Certain solutions still using existing password mechanisms, enhancing it with use of Smart Cards or Token. This solutions has the advantage of a fast deployment.
Very flexible solutions, but simple too, are appliance based single sign on solutions, which are redundant designed and can be integrated into existing infrastructures very easily. You have a central appliance holding all user credentials and you are independent in choosing the way the primary authentication is working. This and the central keeping of the important logon-data are easing some use-scenarios and workflows.

If you want to some research about the solutions, do this also in our knowledge base.
There you can find more about the basic concepts and functionality of the particular solutions, cryptographic basics
and instructions for configuration
and how you can successfully build these solutions into IT-Security Governance
framework.
