Wardialing

War dialing or wardialing was a technique by which a computer would repeatedly dial a number - usually to a crowded modem pool - in an attempt to gain access (immediately after another user had hung up). Also used for what is precisely "demon dialing" what is the act of using a modem to dial every telephone number in a local area to find out where computers are available, then attacking them, trying to gain access by guessing passwords.
