Single Sign On - Software |
| |
Single sign on is the magic bullet against the overwhelming password nightmare. Most solutions are using a central authenticatioin server, which is taking over the authentication. Mostly this is combined with multi-factor-authentication or one-time-passwords
Very flexible solutions, but simple too, are appliance based single sign on solutions, which are redundant designed and can be integrated into existing infrastructures very easily. You have a central appliance holding all user credentials and you are independent in choosing the way the primary authentication is working. This and the central keeping of the important logon-data are easing some use-scenarios and workflows.
More local solutions are using certificate-based or password-based smart-card solutions. The smart card is central authentication tool which is holding the private key or the passwords.
