Processor smart cards are available as USB-Token, where smart card and reader are merged into one single device.

Prozessor chip cards or smart cards have an own card operating system and are usable for security applications. Smart cards are much more than a simple "encrypted memory".

If you want to use smart cards for your own PKI with your own certificates, than you need an applicable middleware for the card. For MS-CAPI applications you need a cryptographic service provider, for all other applications (Mozilla, Enterprise PGP, Lotus Notes) you need a PKCS#11 (Cryptoki) for the card. We are offering this middleware for certain cards.
