Prozessor chip cards or smart cards have an own card operating system and are usable for security applications. Smart cards are much more than a simple "encrypted memory".

If you want to use smart cards for your own PKI with your own certificates, you need an applicable middleware for the card. For MS-CAPI applications you need a cryptographic service provider, for all other applications (Mozilla, Enterprise PGP, Lotus Notes) you need a PKCS#11 (Cryptoki) for the card. We are offering this middleware for certain cards.
