Smart Cards and Krypto Smart Cards are available in different form factors. Most usual are the ISO - Formats ID-000 (SIM-card format) and ID-1 (cheque card format). Smart cards may also be an USB-stick, where chip and reader are merged into one transportable device.

Smart Cards have an own operating system and certain cryptographic functions. They are the kind of means when security applications have to be set up.

Memory chip cards are much simpler. They have a fixed logical structure, therfore they are much simpler to integrate and there is a faster success for developers, when working with cards the first time. But you have to consider, that they use special protocols (synchronous) and they have only low security mechanisms.

Contactless chip cards differ in their power- and data interface from contact cards, which is contactless of course. In former times contactless cards were only memory chip cards, but nowadays you can also find processor chip cards as Dual-Interface chip cards.

Certain software, like time recording solutions, need certain cards, which can only be used with and by this software.
