The contactless technology mifare is one of the first contactless chip products, well known and widespread. Mifare started prior to any standardization efforts in this area. Therefore the physical transmission, the protocol and the application (file structure) on the card was called mifare. Mifare is now compliant to the ISO 14443 A standard.
