Athena + Upek Eikon Biometric Bundle

You want to use Biometrics for authentication without storing templates centrally?

Then the Athena Solution is an option for you. It is a classic smart card authentication with a certificate from the PKI in the domain, but it can use the fingerprint for replacing the PIN of the card. The user is authenticating himself to the card via fingerprint an not with a PIN. The Athena Toolkit supports the fingerprintscanner from Upek, which you can find in many notebooks.

The Desktop Fingerprintscanner from Upek in the Bundle is taking the fingerprint which is sent to the card, where it is matched with the template on the card. If matching is successful, the card is doing the necessary cryptographic computations with the private key for the kerberos-logon.
